Cortney' s unusual and uncompromising approach to her work has resulted in a sound that is quite unlike any other. This is a music of fascinating beauty: staggering, desolate, country infused laments sprinkled with subtle flourishes of electronics; skeletal, eerie, haunting structures that reach out far beyond their geographic roots. And the voice is even more remarkable, an arresting and vulnerable instrument that recalls the likes of Leslie Feist, Hope Sandoval and Liz Fraser whilst maintaining a character all its own.

Cortney lives in Nashville, Tennessee, where she has spent most of her life. Despite being born into a musical family, she veered away from writing and recording for much of her life having associated it with the complications and tragedies that surrounded her during her early life. In the end, however, its call proved too great and she found herself in her basement working on the songs that comprise this first release.
